Our Physicians

Benjamin R. Burkett, M.D.

A native Mississippian, I grew up in Jackson and graduated from Mississippi College. During college, I worked for Brent’s Drugs, the soda fountain and drugstore made famous in the movie “The Help”. Continuing my education at the University Of Mississippi Medical Center, I received my Doctor of Medicine degree and completed residency training hours in Internal Medicine and Pediatrics.  I enjoyed these formative years in my home town and near family.  After residency and successfully acquiring board certification in the specialties of Internal Medicine and Pediatrics, I spent the first 6 years of my career in a traditional medical practice in Petal, a small community near Hattiesburg, MS. My wife and I moved to Little Rock Arkansas where I worked as a hospitalist in the neighboring town of Conway while my wife finished her medical training. After relocating to Montgomery, I continued working as a hospitalist in the community before joining Montgomery Family Medicine in the fall of 2022.

I met the love of my life, RachelAnn, in church choir toward the later part of residency training. My wife is a proud US Navy Veteran and a Pediatrician here in Montgomery as well.  In my free time, I like to read, work in the garden, and spend time with family including our two cats. I have a special interest in medical missions with previous opportunities to serve in Moldova, Peru, and Mexico.  I look forward to serving the community here in Montgomery and developing the special relationships that come with working in primary care.

Eric W. Graves, M.D. F.A.A.F.P.

Alabama is my home.  I was born in Tuscaloosa and have called the state  my home for most of my life.    My family lived for a short time in Knoxville, Tennessee and Austin, Texas before settling in Montgomery in 1976. I graduated locally from Sidney Lanier High School.  I was very fortunate to have been a student in the early days of the LAMP program at Lanier.  My undergraduate studies were completed in town at Auburn University at Montgomery.  I fondly recall working while in college in the 80's  installing computer lines for the State of Alabama as well as  volunteering at Baptist Hospital where I gained valuable medical experience.

I graduated from the University of Alabama School of Medicine at the University of Alabama Birmingham (UAB) before completing my residency at the Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency.  I was active in recruiting and enjoyed a position on the Resident Selection Committee. I was named the VA Internal Medicine Student of the Year while in Tuscaloosa.

In 1995 I decided to establish my Family Medicine Practice here in Montgomery and have enjoyed  lasting relationships with my colleagues since.  I  have acquired special training in skin and dermal procedures, including Laser and Botox treatments and am able to offer these procedures in my office.  I am Board Certified and have recently been named a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to our growing medical practice at Montgomery Family Medicine.

Jeffrey W. Mathis, M.D. F.A.A.F.P.

I am an Alabama native and consider Montgomery my hometown. I attended Sidney Lanier High School and completed an undergraduate degree in Biology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. My medical school training was at the University of Alabama School of Medicine. I pursued my residency training at the Tuscaloosa Family Practice Residency Program, where I received the William F. Deshazo Award for exemplary performance in Family Medicine. I am board certified by the American Board of Family Practice, and am also a fellow of the American Academy of Family Physicians.  I chose family medicine as my specialty because of the rich diversity of patients. I enjoy the opportunity to follow patients and their families through all stages of their lives.

My main personal interest is the care of my family. I have a wonderful wife, Jennifer, and we have five children and two grandchildren.  We strive to serve God in all that we do. We attend the Gracepoint Church of Christ where I serve as a deacon.  I am a sports fan and enjoy a variety of sporting activities. I am a competitive runner and play the guitar when time allows. I have enjoyed being able to serve the medical needs of Montgomery's families and look forward to the many special relationships that will be developed over the time of my practice here.

As a family practice physician, it is my goal to treat patients of all ages with compassion while using the latest medical knowledge.  I view each patient as a unique individual. I hope to use my medical training to improve the health and quality of life of each person I treat.

A native of Lineville, Alabama, I graduated from Auburn University with a degree in chemical engineering.  After finishing medical school at the University Of Alabama School Of Medicine, I completed my residency training at the Tuscaloosa Family Medicine Residency Program where I served as chief resident.  Since 1997, I have practiced medicine with Montgomery Family Medicine, PC.  I am board certified, a Fellow of the American Academy of Family Practice.  I have been selected as "Best Family Practice Doctor" by the Montgomery Advertiser two different years.

Outside of medicine, I enjoy college and high school sports, hunting, and music.  I am a Deacon at the First Baptist Church, Montgomery, and have served as Chairman of the Deacons and Chairman of Stewardship.  I also serve on the Board of Directors of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes of Alabama.

My wife, Gerri, is a native of Camden, Alabama and is a general dentist.  We have two children and have enjoyed making Montgomery our home and serving the health care needs of our community.

Daniel L. Moore, M.D. F.A.A.F.P.

Our goal at Montgomery Family Medicine is to provide care and comfort to the ill and injured, while preventing catastrophic diseases in others by identifying and diagnosing problems before they are even perceptible.  Finding potential problems before they arise is preferred and rewarding - for everyone involved.  By collecting data about family health and personal behaviors, then analyzing the medical information gathered at visits, we can help modify and develop strategies to give people hope for longer and healthier lives.  It has been said that the avoidance of illness is as important as the treatment of ailments, though more difficult to anticipate or understand.

My training began at the University of Central Missouri, with medical studies at the University of Alabama School of Medicine, located at the University of Alabama, Birmingham campus.  My Residency training in Family Medicine was completed at the Tuscaloosa Family Practice Residency Program and I have served at Montgomery Family Medicine since 1999.  My wife and I have three grown children.

Brian W. Elrod, M.D. F.A.A.F.P.

I was born in Cullman, Alabama and moved to Montgomery in 1970. I graduated from Sidney Lanier High School and from Auburn University with honors in chemistry.

I attended the University of Alabama in Birmingham for medical school. During my senior year, I was vice president of the Tinsley R. Harrison Medical Society. My internship and residency were completed at the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa. I served as chief resident in my final year and have been in family practice since 1990.

I am board certified and received my fellowship from the American Academy of Family Medicine. The fellowship is an avenue for special recognition for members of the AAFP who have distinguished themselves among their colleagues in community service and by professionalism developed through education, academics, and research. I am also board certified by the American College of Forensic Examiners, and I am certified as a DOT medical examiner.  Recently, I was selected as one of the Best Doctors in America.  This is the second time I have received this honor.
